Big 3 RX Consulting vs Boutique IB Offers, any Advise or Insight?

Received offers at one of the big 3 restructuring consulting firms and a boutique investment bank both in Chicago. Steering more towards the restructuring role but I genuinely don't know too much about specific day to day responsibilities. Is the work stimulating (i.e. client facing, transactional role, modeling experience for exit opps e.t.c.) relative to IB? I've heard there are a lot of CPA's in RX Consulting, does that imply the role is more similar to FDD rather than actual IB/PE?

Any insight on the exit opps (if there are any for RX Consulting), comp, day to day experience and role, general interest in the work, e.t.c. My concern is that it will be very FDD and accounting heavy versus a more financial modeling related role like IB/PE.

Thank you for your help!

I wouldnt pick rx consulting just because youve seen bankers exit into it. Bankers exit into all kinds of firms, like corp dev, buyouts, growth equity, VC, consulting, you name it. Think about if it’s really what you would have wanted to go into.

Based on your other comments, seems like the ideal role for you would have been a good IB analyst gig. You could try to go from rx consulting to rx banking. Name brand does matter, so be wary about the small banking shop

Do rx consulting (assuming it is one of the big 3) and then try to lateral to Rx IB

When you are this young you want to maximize flexibility. I would think exit and lateral opps are much better at a name brand shop than a no-name shop. Rx IB does recruit from rx consulting plus you will have MBA and other opportunities

At a no name IB boutique, you risk poor deal experience and not having brand name recognition on your resume
