Big 4 Business Modelling Exit Opportunities

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about applying for a Business Modelling position at one of the Big 4 (London). I was wondering if anybody has any business modelling specific experience, and could share their insights? I'm aware there are a large number of threads relating to the exits ops for the Valuations side of VBM, but I can't seem to find much on Business Modelling. From the conversations I've had with people currently working in business modelling, the 2 departments are quite distinct from one another.

One of my goals is to eventually to move into equity research, and I'm hoping the BM role will give me the modelling skills which I currently lack (having been in audit for 3 years), to land a decent ER job in a year or two.

Interested in this topic too and wish to see if anyone might be able to help? Thanks.

Some exposure with their NY group and they're a bunch of sharp people. More of a specialized group within the Valuation group in NY, but from what it seemed like the group was just getting started. Main tasks were stress testing the Valuation group's (and other's?) models, maintaining them and building a some tailored models for consulting and Corp Fin clients.

Might be different in London. Should be a good foundation for ER, but also note that many models are already built in ER and there's little need to build new ones (usually just update)

I can't comment on Business Modelling exit opportunities specifically, but Big 4 candidates with an ACA are highly regarded when it comes to equity research roles in London.

In general, experience in a Corporate Finance or Financial Due Diligence team is particularly sought after, however it's not unheard of for people to make the switch straight from audit to equity research, so moving from a Business Modelling team should be do-able.

Do a quick google search for "Equity research [insert relevant Big 4 name] London LinkedIn" and you'll see plenty of examples of people who have made the move.

Exits to MM banks / boutiques are fairly common.

I've heard of people moving to BBs / EBs (e.g. BAML, UBS, Lazard), however I'm not certain how common this is. I know that Rothschild hire a lot of people from Big 4 M&A teams though.

This thread from a couple of years ago might provide a bit more background:
