Blair CHI vs RJ NYC
Title. Please discuss. A lot of people consider Blair to be #1 in MM, but is it that much better than RJ? And for someone who has no location preference, shouldn't NYC hold more weight?

I had a similar dilemma picking between Blair and another MM based in NYC. I went with NYC and have no regrets but may be biased because 99% of my friend group and family are based here too.
what was your rationale behind choosing MM NYC over Blair? Also, where does that MM bank in NYC rank (> or RJ)?
Blair is far better than RJ, don’t even think there’s an industry group exception.
This is accurate. RayJay's best group is Tech which is an area that Blair dominates in the middle market.
Any impact to Blair CHI from losing those couple tech MDs to Guggenheim?
Financo?
yea i mean their neck and neck in tech & services (maybe WB ahead by a tad since they regularly do 1B+ deals). but everything else is hands down Blair. Additionally, they're known for having a somewhat good culture
What about for exit ops?
heard blair is pretty limited to CHI exits
This is blatantly not true.
RJ in Ny opens more doors. Bigger market and more opportunites. Reputable bank on the street. Know many people who left for MM and UMM funds
Do a LinkedIn search before you listen to this- sure, RJ has a handful of solid exits to MM/UMM PE, but Blair has a ton more.
Even if you go from blair chi to pe ny?
WB opens way more doors than RayJay in New York. Yeah you are in New York, but RayJay is pretty far down the totem pole in terms of NY Finance. If you are looking at exits, WB is a no brainer here.
What about exits in general not just PE? Which brand holds more weight?
Also what about RJ exits to chi PE
They will probably open the same/ similar doors. Question should be what city do you want to live in long term? If it’s NY go to NY so you can start building friends and a life there sooner rather than later. If it’s CHI answer is obvious.
There is an obsession around brand on this forum and having watched recruiting self selection is going to be the biggest determiner for your future, not the bank you are at. FWIW, have watched Blair analysts place at numerous UMM funds this year in NY and CHI.
Tough to say. Not sure where I want to be long term and I love both cities
