Bloomberg vs. ThomsonOne Data
So, I'm working on a report for my school's investment club and got most of my data from a Bloomberg terminal. After realizing I needed a few more numbers while already back in my dorm, I logged on to ThomsonOne. Many of the numbers are different between the two services for apples to apples comparisons such as EBITDA shown annually. Which data set should I use?
This is an interesting question, I'd love to hear more insights as well.
From my experience, ThomsonOne explains how they arrive at the figures and I prefer to use them because I can double-check its accuracy from the annual reports and make adjustments (e.g. to EBITDA) if I wish. I'm not so sure about Bloomberg though. They have a very helpful online chat assistance service so you may want to ask them about their derivation.
My favourite is Reuters Datastream though. Neatest, and most helpful!
I believe if you double click (or right click or something) a value in Bloomberg that there's an option to view exactly how they got to it with direct links to the spot on the actual financial statements where they got it from.
Anyone else who has experience with both products?
