BNP in Spain

Hello all,

I've been doing my research and I can't find a lot about BNP in Madrid. From the rankings, they'll end 2021 in 3rd place in IB in Spain, which is pretty impressive, but I would like to know how it does in terms on salary and prestige, since it's not a BB nor a EB...

Anyone has something to say?

Gracias!

Mostly financing-related deals (i.e. left advisors on Naturgy VTO, with little involvement in the real "M&A"). You should look at the M&A leaguetable rather than "All IB Fees" from Dealogic

Nevertheless a growing franchise, a bunch of senior deal makers left to Beka Finance a couple of months ago, but still a solid place

Also a couple of A&A have left for BBs so it looks a good place to start if you are looking to lateral, so if you have an offer there just take it, you will have dealflow and exit opps.

Can't really agree with you. I think having the MBB brand would position you better for PE at almost every place than a tier 2 bank such as BNP. You won't be getting looks from London PE funds if you are at BNP Spain while you may be more desirable if you come from McKinsey. Also believe that BNP main strengths in Spain are Infra/Energy so that itself would also be limiting but I might be wrong

As per my previous post, I mentioned what happens in Spain, whilst London recruiting is completely different.

You will see that MBBs hire +100-120 analysts per year, whilst IBs in Spain barely hire 2-3 analysts (on avg), which makes IB analysts scarce in Spain.

I'm Spanish too, I was mentioning London because both you and OP mentioned it.

I don't think that IB analysts are really that scarce, you have to take in to account that IB Analysts from Madrid are also competing with Spanish analysts looking to come back from London (BB and EBs) and wanting to go into Spanish PE, which will likely be much stronger candidates than someone who works at BNP Madrid.

You can see that many spaniards working at places like GS/MS London end up working for MM/LMM PE funds because sits at UMM/MF are really scarce in Spain. Would much rather compete with those guys having a different background (McK) than an IB background with worse pedigree.
