Bonus Time = Car Fund

Looking for input on how past analyst/associates have used bonus $$$ to save for a sizable purchase (think a car- as much cash down as possible)

I'm not looking to blow the bonus in one trip to a car lot and am ideally thinking of stashing a bit away for the next few years.

Would you recommend market-return funds or just use all of my glorious 1st year IB knowledge to "beat" the market?

Cheers

MagicKarpI wouldn't try to beat the market... it'll just end up giving you even more stress and frustration. BTW - Buy domestic. Audi A5s may be for pimps, but GT500s are for sexual demigods.

Got to go with the Boss 302.

Couple points of input here. 1) a buddy of mine that works in finance (not IB) just got his bonus. He will be buying a pretty cool fish, probably some cocaine and a midget to dress up as a leprechaun and come hang out with us at this party we are going to this weekend, lol.

Another buddy of mine will be purchasing either a 2012 or 2013 GT-R later this year...depending on what he can find at the time. I don't know how much he will put down in cash but I guess it will be around half or so.

what's the going rate for midget rentals these days?

He was going to pay them like $100/hr plus all the booze they could drink. The 'company' never called him back. He was telling me that back when he was in college they would hire these guys all the time for parties and that they would actually show up in customized coveralls that had handles sewn in the back for the midget tossing contests. LOL.
