Brexit - Visa Issue Help!!
Hi guys,
I am an incoming intern in M&A in LDN. My bank does not normally sponsor visas and to get an FT offer, I will need pre-settled status however.
Therefore, not sure if I should try regional offices post Brexit? I know BBs may sponsor but not sure if others will? Won't this narrow the number of banks which can recruit me/EU nationals significantly?
Also, having to pay full international fees after Brexit (applies to my siblings if they apply to UK) with no support from government (source: https://www.mastersportal.com/articles/2843/uk-tu…)
Its still not clear whats going to happen or how the visa thing will work from next year, so its just a matter of waiting...
Sorry, maybe I am being naive here but I don’t get what you mean by it has not been decided.
It is pretty much clear that free movement is stopping and visas, fees etc is kicking in. The current negotiations are more closely centred around trade.

I mean about the evaluation of the visa process (e.g. how will they decide if they are giving the visas, how hard will it be for some specific sectors...) it does not seem very clear. Had some calls with the french embassy and they werent completely sure about how will it work.

Yeah, I think from what I read it will be a Tier 2 and like normal jobs they will need to prove they could not find anyone “British” first. So likely to have an impact.

No this is not correct, getting a work visa for banking will be very straightforward. If you go to the UK government's website the new visa scheme is clearly explained. Basically you need a job offer doing graduate or skilled job, the ability to speak English and high school education. The challenge for EU candidates is that they will now be in direct competition with a talent pool consisting of billions from around the globe. What the banks hiring/sponsoring intentions are I have no idea.
I don't think the labour market test will be in use after Brexit? So it's really just direct competition with a global pool anyway
The only comment I'd make is that Europeans have an inherent advantage in languages which will still remain useful, b/c, well, the UK is in Europe
Actually, you guys are correct about the labour market test being abolished (well at least temporarily).
So basically the pros for EU will be language, possible closer culture.
Cons: greater competition than before, inability to go for smaller boutiques/MM shops which do not like to sponsor (in the past EU people could just work here without hassle). Long term cons include no fees support from UK govt - I think this is big thing/game changer.
