Can a Ross BBA grad land a job in Toronto?

I'm a Canadian citizen working toward my BBA at Michigan Ross, and I'm hoping to return to Toronto after graduating (easier for me, would personally prefer to live in Canada, not too worried about any salary differences etc). I've heard that most banks in Canada tend to hire from Canadian target schools like Ivey and Queens. How difficult would it be to land a banking job in Toronto with a degree from an American school?

Michigan has major OCR connections to Chicago and NYC IBs but it is not necessarily a target school for Canadian banks; however, considering how close Michigan is to Canada compared to the other states, I would assume that Canadian banks are familiar with Ross's reputation and would be totally willing to give you a chance as long as you network and get in front of them.

I am a Canadian studying at an Ivy and applied to a bunch of places in Toronto. Luckily got flagged by a top BB (GS/MS) and interviewed there. PM and I can discuss a bit further!

There's generally no structured process for CDN banks to recruit US based students because 99 .9 times out of 100, people will take a US based IBD position vs a CDN one. So you'll have to network to convince people you really want to get back to Canada and get into processes. While it means you'll have to do a bit more work upfront, it shouldn't be particularly hard to get people to talk to you or meet you for coffee. Once the process kicks off though, it's all up to you to get the job.

Assuming you have a good GPA (I would target 3.7+), there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get into all of the CDN banks and some BBs. I would also suggest you recruit for US based positions also.

This is exactly it. Canadian banks are fine to take American schooled kids, you just have to find them instead of the other way around as it might be at Ivey or Queens. Make sure you have a good story to explain how Toronto isn't a backup for you and provided everything else is fine you shouldn't find it too difficult to at least get in front of people.

I am just wondering if that would change if it were from a low tier semi target in NY while also being new to Toronto, Canada and having almost zero network here.

Why would they hire someone like that instead of qualified local people they could be confident would actually move to Toronto and would be there for the long term
