Can a Senior MD override a first round rejection?

So I have a call coming up with a senior MD (think global head type) at a MM firm but I missed a bunch of technicals during the first round interview for his office and didn't get invited to an upcoming superday - is it worth asking him he can oveerride this decision and give me another chance? Or is that a bad idea?

From my experience, no. After HR sends you the official rejection then there's not much anyone else can do. Unfortunately, candidates can't get a second chance at interviewing (at least at banks with a formal recruiting process)

Unlikely. Investment banking is largely meritorious so if you crashed and burned during the 1st round, there’s little chance he would go out on a limb and override it.

My advice is to maintain the relationship you have with him for long-term opportunities. Say you understand you didn’t perform as well as you should have during the 1st round and learned from the experience. You’re committed to improving your technical proficiency and hope you can reach out in the future once you’ve gotten additional experience (interviewing and professional) and maintain the relationship by occasionally updating him on your development.

Good luck.

I did this, got crushed during SA recruiting at a BB and incorporated the feedback the guy from my interview gave me. Reached out to the dude for FT and landed a seat on the desk. OP should focus on learning from their mistakes - that should be the priority. Also, they should recruit elsewhere, for now they don't really have a shot at SA at this specific firm.
