Can I get into IB industry with MBA from San Jose State University?

Hello,

I would be graduating with MBA from San Jose State University in December 2021. I currently work as a Quality Engineer in Medical device industry and also have MS in Engineering Management.

I am highly interested in switching my career to IBanking. Please help provide your guidance for this matter.

Use LinkedIn to see how many San Jose State alumni work in investment banking...that should be a telling data point. Anything is possible, but you are already masters educated in an unrelated field. Your best value prop is probably working corpfin in an engineering or engineering adjacent field.

Only way I see this working out for you is if you do a masters in finance at a target... then.. you should be able to strike it at a regional shop which at that point you can lateral to a better role.

I know you are going to say bUt ThAt TaKeS EfFoRt! -- That's the point. This is an incredible competitive industry, and you have already handicapped yourself so you can accomplish your goals but you have a long way to go.

I am already majoring in Finance for my MBA.

I have over 6 years of engineering work experience. Do I still need to get masters in Finance from a target school?

Yes, I know it is a long and tough route for me and I am willing to go an extra mile to get in.
