Can I Make It as a Financial Analyst? - MSc Finance Applications & Career Path Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m currently evaluating my options for MSc Finance programs and would love some honest input from those with experience breaking into finance, especially as a Financial Analyst in investment banking, asset management, or corporate finance.

Programs I’ve Been Accepted To:
EDHEC Business School (France)

Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)

Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)

Fordham University – Gabelli School of Business (New York)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to gain admission into top U.S. or UK target schools (like LSE, NYU, Columbia, etc.). That said, I’m determined to make the most out of the opportunities I do have and ultimately break into a solid financial analyst role ideally in New York.

My Background:
Undergraduate coursework in Accounting, Excel, and Financial Modelling

Experience building valuation models

Currently working through the FMVA certification from CFI

What I’d Like Advice On:
Does Fordham’s location in NYC give it a major edge in terms of access to Wall Street internships and jobs?

Can EDHEC, CUHK, or Trinity realistically help me break into global finance roles, or would I be limited to more regional opportunities?

What can I do now, before starting the MSc to stand out, especially coming from a non-target background?

Any stories or strategies from those who broke in without a traditional target-school pedigree?

Any guidance, feedback, or even personal experiences would mean a lot. I know I’m not coming from a typical “target school” background, but I’m willing to put in the work and network hard to get where I want to be.

Thanks so much in advance!
