Capital Markets -> REGAL?

I currently work on a capital markets team at JLL doing property level debt/equity placement and sales. Is it possible to move from the institutional brokerage side to a real estate gaming and lodging group at an investment bank. I understand there’s clear fundamentals differences between the two, however, think it’d be a smart decision if possible.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's definitely possible to transition from a capital markets team at JLL to a real estate gaming and lodging group at an investment bank. It's not uncommon for professionals to make similar transitions. However, it's important to note that the skill sets required can be quite different, and you may need to brush up on certain areas.

Here are a few steps you might consider:

  1. Leverage your network: Reach out to people who are currently in the role you're interested in or who have made similar transitions. They can provide valuable insights and potentially even help you get your foot in the door.

  2. Enhance your knowledge: Make sure you have a solid understanding of the real estate gaming and lodging industry. This could involve self-study or even taking relevant courses.

  3. Tailor your resume: Highlight the transferable skills and relevant experience you have. This could include deal experience, client management, financial modeling, and more.

  4. Prepare for interviews: Be ready to explain why you're interested in the switch and how your background makes you a good fit.

Remember, it's not just about making the switch, but also about thriving in your new role. So, make sure you're genuinely interested in the industry and willing to put in the work to succeed. Good luck!
