Career Next Steps

Curious to get peoples thoughts here - ignore the title, for background I went to a non-target ug, top coverage group at a BofA / Citi / Barclays type for 2.5 years, spent 2 years in PE focused on that previous coverage, and now at a HBS / GSB MBA. I spent all this time trying to learn and loving finance and now have no idea what to do with myself. I feel so burnt out form the last experience and no clue where to take the next step. I still just feel a bit jaded and tired. Do I continue down the same coverage path on the buyside? Do I pivot to a completely different industry? I keep racking my brain to think about what could get me excited to get up in the morning and the nichiest stuff is like distressed debt or merchant banking perhaps? I just have no clue where to even begin thinking about what I should be doing next.

Anyone out there go through a similar soul searching predicament? I don't feel compelled to try and chase a brand name or hedge fund or anything like that as this prestige path seems dumb. Any insight appreciated. Also happy to help anyone if I can provide any insight or advice given my learnings to date.

As someone who finished their mba 2 years ago, I think this is probably a continuous process. Career is a marathon and it is a question that cannot be solved. There are no perfect solution as your preference for jobs change, jobs also change as the industry changes / as you move up. However, the bright side is that there are probably multiple great jobs that fit well with what you want - I’d start there and then continue to reflect and evaluate
