Centerview vs Morgan Stanley
Got both offers for 2023 Summer Analyst Investment Banking. CVP pays a lot more but seems too good to be true. I see people leaving and going to PE and taking a pay cut. If I chose MS I would try to go to a Mega Fund PE.
Would PE pay more in the long-run (all in) than CVP? Is it a marginal difference where I should take MS for the brand name and prestige? Any advice helps!
Thanks
Depends what group at MS. If M&A, I'd probably do that instead of CVP since the analyst program is 2 years instead of 3 and PE exits are pretty comparable.
Do you know about the financial sponsor's group placement into PE? Do they go to MF firms? I have heard that the culture and work-life balance is great in this group.
I think sponsors at ms is a top group, but not 100% sure
Thanks for the advice! unfortunately I do not know what group I will get placed into because there is a group placement process and I assume majority of interns gun for the M&A group lol
Comprable exits? I'd assume MS M&A places lights out better than CVP
In a similar position, what about FSG as OP said? Or GPUG/Media Communications?
Ms if you want to exit hands down
MS if M&A, CVP otherwise
What about FSG or Media Communications?
nah
Unless you are going to be in MS m&a or Menlo tech, CVP has the same, if not better exits on a per capita basis, and you will get paid more.
What about media comms? Have some alumni in it
Media/Comms also has historically great placements to my knowledge.

Sponsors is great and places near the top for MF PE. However, MS group placement can be a crapshoot, and most lists M&C, M&A, and sponsors as their top 3 choices, so it is far from guaranteed that you get into one of those groups, unless you have an in with someone who has a say. Most groups at MS will have at least some MF PE placement and it is rare to be placed into a group with objectively bad PE placement, but overall, CVP will be more consistent on a per capita basis, and better if you don't place into a top group.
Any insight on MS Tech?
NY Tech is very IPO-centric (insane deal flow), not as much M&A
I've heard they still have great exits - do you have any insight on that?
Go MS if you wanna exit MF PE
Former Centerview analyst here, exited to MF PE. Both good options — if you wanna exit to PE as fast as possible, go MS (bc of the 3-year program at CVP) otherwise CVP takes the cake in all other respects (compensation, WLB, experience) with exits on par with MS, or better depending on group placement.
what cvp office? Is it PA or SF?
MS will give you a faster and better exit, easy choice here
.
What about CVP vs MS for an OC ?
