Chances of getting IB Position

Hey, This is my first post and I was wondering how you guys see my chances of getting an IB position after graduation and maybe you have some advice for me on how to get there besides the general LinkedIn messages/cold calls.

I am a senior at a small non-target school that probably never moved anyone to IB. I tried to make the best out of it, so I am majoring in Econ, Finance and Cyber Defense with a current GPA of 3.95. Since I am a bit older than the normal graduate (24 years), I was able to get some work experience apart from internships, but the only relevant ones are job for the Swiss Stock Exchange (SIX), and as a Credit Analyst for a Financial Services Company. Also I am currently interning with a brokerage firm, where I am getting my FINRA licenses before graduation, to set myself a little apart from other candidates. Also I have some international experience from working in Switzerland, since I grew up there and therefore speak some other languages too.

But the real problem is that I do not have any IB experience, and no internships. I try to fix that with some courses and classes, but obviously that is not enough. What do you guys think, do I have any chance and do you have any advice on how it can be done?

I appreciate any answers and help. Thanks.

You are a savage. You can do anything, don't let anyone tell you otherwise - especially the naysayers in this thread. Work hard and make your dreams a reality.

network the shit out of yourself. a 3.95 is a stud gpa and you might be seen as more mature with having some work experience apart from internships.

How is this helpful at all? You've done nothing to help but tell him to keep grinding. If you wanted him to be helpful, you would've told him to continue his work experience in credit, go to a T15MBA, and then transition over to IB.

there are a lot of boutique banks to reach out to and he has months before graduation. everyone else in this thread is telling him to give up for now and then try again later, you think it is helpful to tell someone to give up for now when there is some chance that he/she can succeed without giving up?

Swing for a corporate banking job where the CB is within the investment bank (like citi and JPM). Work hard and demonstrate you are a quality analyst. Since you will work close to the IB guys it is much easier to make the move to IB since they will know who you are. Corporate banking deals with credit analysis so you can leverage your experience and solid GPA. Corporate banking spots are less competitive to get, but there is also less spots available so still network hard. CB at a BB (where CB and IB are housed together) is a good side door to IB but you want to make the switch within the first two years. You could also keep networking hard and get into a small boutique and move over to a bigger bank later on. There is also the Masters in finance road but you seem like you want to avoid further school for now. Good luck.
