Chicago Investment Banking Scene 2022

Does anyone have any idea of the teams in Chicago? How are the satellite offices for BB/EB? Any thoughts on the deal flow/reputation/experience/exit in the satellite offices in Chi? Are they kinda independent from NY?

BBs:

BofA - agriculture, automotive, metals

GS - some agriculture, standard banks (in FIG)

MS - nonexistent

Citi - largest BB presence in chicago, didn't recruit with them not sure what they cover

Barclays - TMT (business services + ed tech)

EBs:

Lazard - RX, entire M&A team was fired a few years back rip

Moelis - small office

PWP - paper and packaging, maybe other stuff too

Evercore - paper and packaging only, extremely small office

Greenhill - global industrials hub, medium-ish office of 25-30 people

Other:

Blair - obviously hq

Baird - also strong

Macquarie - edtech

Guggenheim also in Chicago, IT services, growing office around 50-60 bankers.

how would you rank exits at those places? in terms of MF/UMM recruiting?

I would say so unless u want to optimize for MF/UMM recruiting. Blair pretty much places into standard MM funds and a few UMM

Would like to add CS global industrials group. They basically only cover mobility & services, but has exposure to firms globally.
