Chicago Investment Banking Scene 2022
Does anyone have any idea of the teams in Chicago? How are the satellite offices for BB/EB? Any thoughts on the deal flow/reputation/experience/exit in the satellite offices in Chi? Are they kinda independent from NY?
Bump
BBs:
BofA - agriculture, automotive, metals
GS - some agriculture, standard banks (in FIG)
MS - nonexistent
Citi - largest BB presence in chicago, didn't recruit with them not sure what they cover
Barclays - TMT (business services + ed tech)
EBs:
Lazard - RX, entire M&A team was fired a few years back rip
Moelis - small office
PWP - paper and packaging, maybe other stuff too
Evercore - paper and packaging only, extremely small office
Greenhill - global industrials hub, medium-ish office of 25-30 people
Other:
Blair - obviously hq
Baird - also strong
Macquarie - edtech
Citi is industrials m&a
1
Guggenheim also in Chicago, IT services, growing office around 50-60 bankers.
Thought their IT Services is in Atlanta for their PEAG. Isn’t Chicago industrials?
Thank youu! What about JPM Chicago?
They do M&A and Diversified Industries out of that office
Heard BGL makes some noise too in the mm space
Lol
wtf happened to the lazard m&a team--why were they fired?
how would you rank exits at those places? in terms of MF/UMM recruiting?
PWP isn't really paper and packaging. Partners there focus on automotive, metals & mining, and C&R.
GS has an industrials team in Chicago. Lincoln, Stout, Blair, Guggenheim (split between New York) are all based out of Chicago. Large middle market presence.
Large industrials presence. Much more laid back than New York.
Chicago culture: middle market, industrials, not as fast paced, cheaper
Is WB a better place than Citi/BAML/JPM in Chicago?
I would say so unless u want to optimize for MF/UMM recruiting. Blair pretty much places into standard MM funds and a few UMM
What is BOA Chi's reputation like?
Would like to add CS global industrials group. They basically only cover mobility & services, but has exposure to firms globally.
Marathon Capital is a major player in the renewable energy space. They're niche but well-known in the space and have a decent Chicago presence
RJ FIG, Diversified Industrials
Anyone know anything about the non Baird and Blair MM scene? Do firms like RJ/STRH/Stifel/Cowen/Oppenheimer have a presence?
Lincoln, Stout, HL, Gugg have pretty large presences in MM space there. BMO, BGL, RJ all have offices too. Solomon partners also opened an office last year
Thanks for the insight. Do you know anything about what the HL office specializes in?
WF has a small industrials office there too
