can anyone comment on their S&T group in China? reputation/work hrs/career progression? any info at all would be appreciated.
i'm trying to land a summer internship (associate level) with them and just want to see how they stack up vs. my other options.
thanks!
Is it China International Capital Corporation? Honestly it is not a familiar acronym to me.
yeah it's China International Capital Corp. - partnershipped between the Chinese government and Morgan Stanley, who's been trying to sell their stake to KKR/Bain/TPG.
anyways, i know they're a powerhouse in China in IB, M&A, etc. but those aren't particularly my interests. just wanted to see if anyone here can speak to their S&T reputation, exit ops, etc.
China's equity markets are an absolute joke.
not interested in equities. at all.
commodities, interest rates, fixed income, fx, credit, etc. - i'm much more interested in derivatives and have a decent background in it.
I don't know the size of CICC's HK presence but their competitive advantage would only really be in China. The capital markets in China are rather immature. If you want to do derivatives in Mainland China, do it in Hong Kong at a BB.
well i'm limited in my options now that it's past most BB's summer deadlines.
i've got an application in at Barclays in Singapore and i'm still waiting to hear back from them. but so far CICC seems to be a possibility.
i might also have a chance at some small/mid HF's. just not sure how much i'll learn in those settings, since i'll be the coffee bitch more than anything else i imagine. i'll probably build good relationships but that's about it. although my ultimate goal is to be on the buyside, i'm not sure this will be the optimal way in.
also to clarify a bit about my background. i'm starting my mba this fall, so i'm trying to do land a solid internship before i start my mba, since it's only a 1 yr program. i have experiences in FX, interest rates, and commodities - all in back/mid offices though. i'm looking to move into S&T after graduation, with the long term goal being HF's or a PM type of role in investment management. my focus is very much global macro, so i'm not particulary interested in working in IB, M&A, or other roles that deals with investments on a company level.
CICC is basically MS's joint venture to break into the Chinese market, but they've been squeezed by the Chinese, and things have gone sour for MS.
CICC dominates domestic IB work in China... can't help to think its politically related
