Citi healthcare was known as one of the most brutal groups on the Street in the wonder years (2004 to 2007). Most likely the New York group. I don't hear about anything they do in SF.

 

ML was the absolute 100% lead advisor on HCA. MS didn't come in until the Board of Directors needed to appoint a Special Committee. Up until that point, it was all ML.

 

pitched the idea to HCA first. No other bank was involved until everyone was way into the deal and the company needed the special committee. Up until that point, ML was working for/with all parties involved. The deal was originally sourced through ML Healthcare Group, so ML had to be working on HCA's side at least to start.
