Citi Software

Anyone have any insights into this group? Curious about culture and deal flow. Is this considered a top team at Citi? What are differences between geography particularly NY vs SF in terms of deal flow, senior focus and culture?

growing momentum. Citi industrials and m&a still run numbers. more software m&a done in sf than nyc, could be wrong tho

Agree that momentum is growing with the team. 3+ large take privates printed in 2025 with Citi on sell-side, two from EC chairman, one from WC rainmaker. Bunch of other privateCo transactions representing both buyside and sellside. Even split of deal experience between SF and NYC at the moment. Deal flow strong and getting stronger - everyone is working on at least 1 live m&a transaction.

Recent JPM senior hires are going to produce more SW fees, only a matter of time. Likely more MD hires happening too.

Long hours, but Saturday exception still largely honored. Would classify culture as OK. Could be better but could also be much worse.

Generalist model changing this year - all juniors up to VP now work in all verticals (previously analysts and associates were ‘verticalized’ after four months on the desk)

Overall bullish on the group. Firm appears to be investing heavily.

Very helpful. Can you provide more detail on culture? Are teams cross staffed with different offices?

VP in IB - Cov

Complete sweatshop with high turnover. Avoid.

Can you provide some more color?

Definitely a top group at Citi. Software M&A is lean and extremely competent (analysts run models etc). Other groups outside of software are lackluster. Hours are terrible, 7 days a week, but expected with dealflow. Many SAs leave to Q. JPM senior hires give huge momentum boost. Definitely one of the top groups in SF/Citi.

Very strong group and M&A deal flow per analyst is probably better than most shops with more built-out M&A teams since there's so few juniors

Who is bringing in the deal flow for this group? Is it mostly the new JPM guys?
