Client Analyst at Goldman Sachs, good or bad?

Hey everyone,Just got offered a position at Goldman Sachs to be a Client Service Analyst. Is this a good career path to be headed down, or will I still be on the outside looking in? I figured since it was Goldman Sachs I have a pretty good shot of leveraging the name to a more prestigious/higher paying role somewhere else.Anyway, thoughts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like an upgraded customer service job. GS is a good name for your resume, but your role is far more important than the name, and you probably wouldn't be able to lateral into traditional finance jobs. You'd be better off getting an investments role, or whatever you'd eventually want to do, at a smaller company so you can gain the finance skills to move up to better firms.

What are your responsibilities, do you just help PWM answer client questions and trade confirmations? And what type of roles do you eventually want to get into?

Well it’d be in the AMD, and I’d also be able to get licensed (series 63). As for the day to day responsibilities, the interviewer said it’d be “very transactional”.

I still had three rounds of interviews including a SuperDay, but for some reason I still get the feeling I’ll be in a career dead end.

I also don’t come from a target school or anything so maybe that’s also in the back of my head.

I would just hate to be customer service with no real ‘prestige’,

but it is Goldman

Yeah, sounds like you'd mostly be executing client orders if they want a 63. It's back office. A fine career and I'm sure the base salary is competitive, but if you're looking to get into banking or something like that you would need to go back to school for an MBA in a few years. You can climb out of this role into AM roles or such, but it's a difficult path (Look up back office to front office on here to get an idea)

Don't think about prestige too much - focus on what type of role you want to have in 5 years, rather than working for any specific company in the wrong role.  Do you have other offers or leads elsewhere?
