Cold-calling regional offices?

...of U.S. BBs in places like Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver ... is there any point to this, or is all hiring done out of NY? And what do I say on the phone? I'm a soph looking for a summer job in anything that will help me out come next year.

well I know for Toronto all the places have pretty much done hiring at this point. They each only take like 0-3 people a year and they hire from a select list of schools.

Also each of these firms do there own hiring seperate from New York.

Do you mean HR? or a specific person (analyst, associate, vp, etc.)?

Either way, the fact that its a satellite office vs. hq shouldn't change the answer much. Here's a tip though, make sure you include in your e-mail/call WHERE you got the person's contact info from (LinkedIn, mutual contact, etc.). This is a must.

p.s. what region are you targeting? What BB(s)?

seedy underbellyGot it.

@MichaelEisner: Without giving too much away, Texas.

Oh, so Houston

Would appreciate any helpful opinions.

Also, yes, Houston. Are you working there? Care to help out?

nauprillionThe best way to do this is to get the contact info from someone that knows the person that you are trying to get in touch with. Include their name in the subject title: "Internship opportunities - referred by Mark Johnson"

Problem is, I don't know anyone in the particular office. Should I go the HR route?

seedy underbellyhow about if i'm interested in ibd and he's in s&t? would that seem weird? can't seem to find many at that bb's office on linkedin lol

Do a google search for "bank name investment banking analyst (or associate, vp, md etc) houston linkedin" and you will probably get more results than using the actual linkedin search.

seedy underbellySo, what should i say.. I mean we have nothing in common.. "i was looking to connect with those involved with blah blah in the Houston area and blah blah linkedin."

does that sound weird?

"Hi I'm a student at _______ interested in X, I came across your info on linkedin and wondered if I could give you a call to talk about X."
