Commercial banking associate vs credit risk associate?

Hi monkeys,

Currently in IB M&A looking to move to a more relaxed job. Can anyone provide any details on work life balance / comp / responsibilities?

It’s hard to compare without knowing the bank. At my last bank, commercial/corporate banking underwrote the risk and managed the debt relationship while the credit risk team simply looked at credit applications and granted approval (or pushed back on the terms/structure/etc.)

Unsurprisingly, this meant that Commercial/Corporate bankers worked longer and were paid more than the credit risk teams.

I’ve realized from this forum that many banks are different and that credit risk has more responsibilities and pay at some banks. I would take that into consideration when reading people’s responses. (TLDR- “credit risk” can mean many different things depending on the bank.)
