If the bank separates applications/recruiting pools for CM and IB, I don't think there is much they can do directly to help push you through. That said, it never hurts to reach out, and they may be willing to pass you along to someone in IB. It helps if you express interest in a specific sector. For example, you reach out to an ECM banker who primarily does healthcare, and express that you are interested in healthcare but more on the IB side. He/she may then be willing to refer you to someone he/she works with a lot on the coverage side.
