Contacting Investor Relations - help

My MD is nuts. He wants me to call the IR department of our client’s competitor and ask general information relating to Its segmental margins, Growth Rates by price / volume; growth capex; add-on acq multiples; competitors in each business. None of this info is public disclosed by the company So I’m skeptical of our success chances. How can I get IR to release this week information)? What do I tell them I am - a student or a professional ? Are they generally accommodating ? Thanks !

tell them you're considering an investment in the industry and were looking for information. it'd be helpful if you had specific things not mentioned in their 10K you could hit on

just because it's not in the 10K doesn't mean it's material nonpublic information, it just might not be relevant

it's not that weird, go ahead and ask away, there's nothing wrong with being resourceful
