Craziest thing you've seen someone do to get ahead

Any crazy stories of coworkers trying to out-perform their peers? What have the absolute killers done to out-grind their colleagues, kiss up to seniors, and attempt to stand out (or embarrass themselves trying).

I knew a kid who would routinely set emails to send at 3am. Another who offered (on a team-wide workflow call) to revamp the group's file structures...an MD laughed and told him that was admin work. The hardest hardo I knew took "first in and last out" seriously, always asked for more work, and washed out about as quickly as one can.

knew this other analyst on deal team that was super insecure

one time I checked and sent a link to the backup folders to a working group email chain and asked for an analysis that was missing; 5 minutes later he quietly transfers the files to that folder then resends the link to the chain and says yeah it's in there no? (keyword 'no?').. no big deal probably brain fog

he got staffed on another situ and I offered to temporarily help with his 'admin' workstream; obviously everyone is getting staffed left and right-- when I asked him to take that workstream back he said why don't you continue since you're a master at it alr; eventually forced him to take it back (had to flag to assoc, like wtf?) but just surprised how he bit my hand

few days later he was working on a rider and he fucked up big time footnotes on a few pages; Associate goes mad as this isn't the first time and instead of claiming fault he said WE will fix it and WE should have checked it better. no big deal (and obviously my fault for not checking thoroughly) but at that point was sick of this snakeyness

flagged to staffer and his line manager but obviously he can't give two shits given how 'secure' our jobs in this environment

he's not getting ahead per se but he's definitely getting away with a shitty attitude
