Data Analytics Concentration - IB Relevancy

All -

Looking to add a data analytics concentration to my MBA , and I wanted to get individuals' thoughts regarding it's relevancy for investment banking. My initial thought would be a resounding yes. A few of the course listings below:

a. Applied Business Analytics and Decisions
b. Big Data Management: Tools and Techniques
c. Spreadsheet Modeling and Applications
d. Business Application Development with Visual Basic for Excel
e. Data Mining and Applied Multivariate Analysis
f. Applied Business Forecasting
g. Advanced Big Data Analytics
h. Applied Econometrics
i. Data Manipulation
j. Decision Support with Spreadsheets

Thanks!

My instinct is also yes for two reasons. 1.) Some of the courses sound specifically relevant to the kinds of modeling you'd be doing in IB - spreadsheet modeling, applied business forecasting, maybe business application development (hard to tell just based on the course title). Data Mining and applied business analytics and some of the other courses might be a bit heavier on "pure" stat and/or the IT side than you'd necessarily need in IB, but being more comfortable working with data from start to finish (database structures, data cleaning, how to actually get/query/etc. data) is never going to not be helpful.

and 2.) without knowing much else about your background/undergrad major, having the concentration on your resume will be a good signal for employers that you are a "quant" person if you don't already have an undergrad major or job experience that shows that, as opposed to someone getting an MBA concentrating in general management or something.

Appreciate the insight. Finance and Accounting undergrad degrees with a CPA from a non-target. Nothing spectacular, but the program to which I'm matriculating has near perfect IBD placement for domestic students.

"Data Analytics" is like buzzword of the century when it comes to finance. Having that on your resume is never a bad thing. All those classes you listed also seem extremely applicable to IB or PE.
