Dating a colleague in IB

EB/BB analyst here. Knew/dated the girl in school and ended up in the same group. As the topic suggested, what’s the views on seriously dating a fellow analyst in the same group (aka aiming for marriage and not some occasional hook up or random swing after a drink)? What will they do if they find out?

Companies are normally concerned with lawsuits that might come as a result of two people dating at the workplace, when things go sideways rumors could come up that may or may not be the truth. It also looks unprofessional, although legally there isn't much they can do about employee fraternization. There are rules if a manager would date a subordinate, but you two are peers.

For what it's worth I dated a colleague pretty seriously for about 8 months or so. We kept it discreet and nobody in the office knew, although I don't think anyone would've cared unless it was a supervisor/employee relationship or it was obviously impacting our work.

I really wouldn't recommend it to be honest. One off hookups are whatever, but when it's actually someone you care about self consciousness can creep in etc. Let alone if you break up and there are real feelings involved. Thankfully in my case we didn't actually work that closely and she had taken a job elsewhere by the time we ended it.
