RIP
if you don't ask, you'll never know
Why dont you ask HR
I will, I’m just worried they’ll say no
I've seen it happen at the analyst level for other divisions. Although I think it's more likely to happen in divisions where demand is not very high to start with.
In your case I think it might be problematic. HR is lazy when it comes to stuff like this. At least in my experience.
How should I sell it?
I’d probably just be honest haha. Sounds like it’s out of your control having to take a year out, and hopefully they’ll understand it’s a weird time and they’ll be lenient. I would highlight being excited about starting and how much you’re looking forward to it. They might like to know how you will spend the next year, maybe line something up so that it isn’t a waste of a year. I know there are lots of opportunities for some community service work if there are no professional options, which would be great to share with them and also good for your development with a dash of good karma. Good luck!
What happened to your deferral offer?
They said they couldn’t offer me deferring the job by a year but said they’d be happy to offer me to do the summer internship again in a different team.
I rejected
