Lots of developments like Goodluck Hope, New Providence Wharf and London City Island that aren't right on top of CW but are walkable.
I'd look on rightmove for places to rent, most things end up there.
Budget mixed but I'm living by myself at one of the above developments and can rent a 1 bed for less than half take home salary.
Most of London is safe, I wouldn't go down to Woolwich, Lewisham, places like that in the south east though.
