I heard a rumor from a friend that an analyst at an Evercore regional office passed away this week. I don’t know if they had any underlying health issues but sounds like they had been working long hours.

Is there any truth to this? Sad to hear if true.

These analyst/associate deaths are just becoming more frequent… not only is nothing changing the problem is becoming structurally worse

It’s not even news it’s routine. This is a disgusting evil industry

It was a first year analyst in the Houston office. He had a seizure and have not heard any updates since. Poor guy but it makes me wonder if the dude was coked up or something because this happening after only a year is crazy

If that’s true, he may have had an underlying condition and a lot of stimulants (legal or not) with v little sleep may have unfortunately triggered something.

Have heard of cases where people have died after having some adderall and no sleep with an underlying health condition they weren’t aware of.

If anyone is familiar or in the group, can you please talk to the media / finmeme accounts / publicize? let’s spread awareness and name and shame seniors who caused this

2020 class. Told to start coming back to the office in 21 and they all transferred to NYC or went elsewhere.

I know folks who were there before Covid and after and it’s evidently night and day different. Pre covid, analysts had no protections or ability to push back but now ASO/VP basically can’t rely on analysts after 7pm bc they know they can cause a big issue if they all dip. That’s not to say that analysts aren’t grinding but evidently it’s not uncommon for an analyst to just ghost the team in the evening/weekend.

How recent have you spoken to anyone who works there? I spoke with that office recently and they were upfront in how late they work and their weekend expectations.. which tracks with this story

What other white collar job has this many deaths / serious health conditions caused by working conditions? This is insane if true. Even if it’s caused by abuse of XYZ substances, the culture and need for stimulants in some sweaty groups are also part of the problem.

Should also ask the opposite question . . are there jobs with similar working conditions, and low/no stimulant abuse, and are those people dying or not.  I don't know, for example, how much medical residents abuse stimmies.  If they use less and die less, then it's understandable to blame stimmies.

Controversial

love how you wicked ppl like to say "oh maybe its stimulants/snow" you are no better than rich handler. every state college frat dude ends up at a life insurance gig where they use wayyy more stuff and you dont see them in the news. its the nose people who run this disgusting industry where potential goes to be buried

Well he was overworked by the MD, 2 consecutive weeks of 3am while the female Associate took off at 6pm daily. Very hardworking lad just ended up working with a**holes. Hope he recovers soon.

Can we get this out to Litquidity? This is just unacceptable if true. Saying they used too much stimulants isn't an excuse

Maybe this is why Houston banks keep asking about ties to Texas - if they can't retain people and are looking for some kind of personal affinity to the area, instead of what the bank has to offer, that's a problem

definitely a problem. EVR, JEF, JPM, GS are all "elite" shops in houston but do a quick wso search and you'll find threads on how sweaty/toxic they are
