I know ppl at FTI on the east coast. They do restructuring consulting. One of the guys I know was able to lateral to a BB investment bank.
I say take FTI. Better brand and probably better experience.
this decision should be really simple. do you want to do banking or consulting? focus on what your long term goals are. if you want to work in banking then take JMP and conversely FTI for consulting. your decision should not be based on brand or prestige as these are not comparable, different fields of work.
Agreed, you should think about what industry you really want to get into. If you're undecided, should spend more time talking to people from both firms.
I have seen ppl lateral from FTI to IB, but wouldn't it be easier to lateral from JMP?
FTI if you want to do consulting JMP if you dont. Seems pretty straight forward... one is consulting, one is not.... one is west coast, one is not...
What do you want to do and are you okay living on said coast to do it? Problem solved.
Thanks for the advice guys. I have always planned on pursuing IB and have never really been that into consulting. I just applied to FTI through OCR and found what they do to be pretty interesting..so it was never really a Consulting vs Banking thing but more about liking what FTI specifically does.
double post..
Late but... I know people who've gone from FTI restructuring to PE.

JMP crushes it as a co-manager in IPOs, not a bad place to be.
ive seen jmp analysts/associates move onto PE or HF. with a few top 10 bschools
Thanks guys. Any thoughts on the possibility of moving from JMP to a smaller VC/Growth equity fund, as JMP deals with a ton of young tech & hc firms.
