If you already asked him once then asking again wouldn't help. Unfortunately, they might have not selected you or are still reviewing applications but it's hard to know for sure.
No harm in following up if it's been a while. I know a lot of BBs are wrapping up their fall recruiting though. Not sure if that applies to sophomore programs so you could still be chillin

Honestly, reaching out to him again won't do anything. If he already submitted his referral and the process just needs HR to review, then you just have to wait. If he's just lying about referring you, then there's nothing you can do about that. Either way, there's no chance he just forgot to refer you if he actually planned to, especially if he took the time to reply to your previous follow-up, so the only thing an additional follow-up will do is give you some peace of mind, at the risk of annoying the MD.
