Deutsche Bank (DB) London Reputation and Exits

How would you position Deutsche Bank in London / Europe currently (relative to other BBs (e.g. UBS) and EBs)?

Any thoughts on their Industrials team? Heard it's one of their strongest (if not one of the strongest on the street). Any idea of which sub-verticals are strongest?

Do they exit well (is it mostly MM PE or is UMM / MF also possible)? From other threads, it seems it's more a lateral platform to top BBs vs. getting good PE seats - would you agree?

I've not interviewed there or spoken with anyone at DB, so any insights on current culture would also be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Best sector team but weaker compared to other BBs in EMEA as JP/MS/GS take the big mandates.

If you can choose a team, pick DB Leveraged Finance.

LF has got the best prestige, one of the best EMEA LevFin franchise, and better exits compared to most sector

So pick LF, if you have a choice

If you like 4ams every night with toxic culture for middle market deals, pick Industrials

Thanks for the insight - much appreciated!

Any further insight on what’s driving the toxic culture in Industrials? Most seniors or just a few to avoid? How’s junior culture?

Personally, I don’t have interest in debt, otherwise LevFin would be definite yes.

Industrials as a sector I have a lot of interest in broadly, so it seems the most logical choice.

Thanks again!

I worked in that team.

Services is arguably a top 3 team. GS is on another league but DB competes with JPM. Vers solid deal flow both buy side and sell side. They are on par with GS in facility management, good in blue collar more generally. Vers strong in corporate and fund administration services. TIC is weaker

Aerospace and defence is pretty strong, lean team

Auto is strong too but mostly financing work due to the nature of the sector

Capital goods, chemicals, mining, paper & packaging are meh

I left before but I heard from my former colleagues that Numis is atrocious. Low quality people across the board and they are not integrated with the DB EMEA teams. It is a very different experience

I understand Numis also does Corporate Broking, which might take atleast some time apart from regular advisory work. That said, I think they did the JTC Permira deal and pretty much mid-cap focused in general.
