I'm applying for a boutique for SA in NYC. My friend got a first round interview on Tuesday, I didn't hear anything back so I emailed an analyst I networked with yesterday and she said they are hoping to reach out the next day (today) regarding first round interview dates. I did not hear back today. Does this signify I got dinged?

You probably did, unfortunately. It's possible that they're taking a while to reach out to candidates, but if your friend already heard from them to schedule a first-round, it seems like you probably got dinged.
However she did say last night today hopefully would be the day they tell us, so she's just one day late on it.
Stop worrying. There's nothing you can do about it either way. Focus efforts on other leads and if they come back with an interview opportunity then great.

The only thing that will make you feel better is the invitation letter. Obviously this is a stressful time so just chillax. You just never know what can happen. Good luck with your process.
