Did I not network effectively?

SA recruiting is essentially finishing up at my semi-target school ahead of resume drops. It's been a productive quarter; I've met a lot of bankers from many different shops and have learned a lot about what different groups and opportunities are out there. I've had generally good conversations with people and haven't had any awkward experiences.

My only concern is that I haven't networked effectively enough, or done things "the right way." My approach to the entire thing was generally to converse with each banker about their career experiences, what they like about their group, deals they've worked on, etc... Basically, work-related topics.

I don't feel as though I've developed a "personal connection" with many of these bankers, though. A number of my peers are getting coffee left and right with folks at seemingly every bank. I've sent out requests for coffee or a phone call with mixed success. So far I've had a handful of phone calls and am getting coffee with a senior banker at a shop I'm interested in over winter break.

It's hard to judge the crowd, so I ask all of you: am I "behind" or at a disadvantage in the whole process if I haven't demonstrated that I'm a cool, awesome, fun person to everyone I've spoken to?

I have a strong resume and plenty of time to study technicals over break. I only fear that banks won't consider me a "fit." I'm a perfectly normal, cool person. Just not sure if the firms recruiting me know that, though.

Edit: Also, what is the end goal of networking for most of you guys? Can it only take me so far as a first round interview, or is it really a deciding factor in who the bank gives offers to?
