Do banks still test for THC in New York?

I know a law went into effect a couple years ago barring pre-employment THC tests in NYC. Banks are obviously in a gray area since many can be considered federal contractors to some extent, which would allow them to bypass this law.

So my question: since this law took effect, have any of you guys (who work in NYC) been subject to a pre-employment drug test that included THC?

Nah, was like right before I started so early July 2020.

My bank sets you up to pass though, you get like a month. Think even more so at the time bc of covid, they may have had extensions if you weren't comfortable, etc.

This is for a lateral move so timing will be pretty tight. Was under the impression there would be no drug test at all, but the recruiter mentioned I’d need to take one on my last call with them.

Wonder if I should ask specifically if they test for THC. There is a very good chance I’ll fail if I need to do it within the next ~week.

From my perspective there’s no benefit to bringing it up now… maybe they don’t test for it, or maybe you somehow pass. No need to raise a red flag even if they don’t care. I don’t remember exactly but I believe the official request they send you with the instructions and company code will specify the list of drugs they test for and/or LabCorp may know.

IMO the only thing you can do right now is try everything you can to pass (getting it out of system, any reasonable ways to stall, etc.) and see how the results come back. Idk much about this law, but you can always consider disputing the legality of it at a later stage if you fail. Worst case, maybe see if a first year analyst there got tested for it. But I definitely wouldn’t raise the issue with HR or recruiter when you don’t even know what’s going to happen.
