Do bulge brackets offer winter cycles (I'm broke)?
Graduating this semester, getting a job right now since I can't pay this month's rent. No bank will loan money for rent, all mandate a guarantor, so only option is Wendy's. I also feel an immense need to hear "pls fix" and "realign this logo" again.
Accepted return offer at BB (BofA, GS, JPM, MS). Is the winter cycle a legitimate option for me? Are there downsides / risks? Is entry analyst training the same length / period as it would be over the summer? Overall opinion?
Thanks!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, bulge bracket banks (like BofA, GS, JPM, MS) typically do not offer formal "winter cycles" for full-time analyst roles. Recruitment for these positions is generally structured around summer analyst programs, which serve as the primary pipeline for full-time offers. However, there are a few considerations and potential options:
Winter Start Dates: Some bulge brackets may allow flexibility for incoming analysts to start earlier than the standard summer timeline, depending on business needs and team capacity. This is not a formal "winter cycle" but rather an adjustment to the start date for those who have already secured offers.
Downsides/Risks: Starting earlier could mean missing out on the structured training programs that typically occur in the summer. These programs are designed to onboard analysts collectively, providing both technical training and networking opportunities. Starting off-cycle might result in a less cohesive onboarding experience.
Entry Analyst Training: If you start earlier, the training period might be adjusted or condensed. However, this depends on the bank's policies and whether they can accommodate individual training sessions.
Alternative Options: If you're in urgent need of income, consider reaching out to your BB's HR or recruiting team to discuss your situation. They might be able to expedite your start date or provide guidance on interim solutions. Additionally, exploring short-term roles or internships in finance-related fields could help bridge the gap.
Overall, while a formal winter cycle is unlikely, reaching out to your BB's HR team is your best bet to explore flexibility in your start date or other potential solutions.
