Do I have a chance of landing a job at BofA with a felony

I am currently looking to get a job at BofA in S&T. When I was 19 I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. That ultimately lead to a conviction on my record (4 fourth degree possession of marijuana felony)..Fast forward a few years, my current GPA is a 3.67 and I have decent work experience (big four accounting firm) . What are the chances that I get rejected after a offer is extended? Has anyone on this forum been able to get a job at a BB or EB with a felony on their record.

The waiting period is roughly four years to get it expunged.

Location: NY, New York

Would just be honest with it. A weed possession felony is the least worst felony you could have. It’s going to harm you at a lot of places, but it’s also not the end of the world. I mean don’t let it be the first thing you say though. Just explain it on your app when you have to check yes for a felony, and don’t mention it in interviews unless asked. If you get an offer, I would just be open with HR about.

Really sorry this happened to you. I don’t think simple possession for any drug should be a felony, or even a crime at all, anywhere. New York has recently legalized marijuana too. 10 years ago, this probably would have been the end of the world, but maybe not today. A lot of people will just see “felony” and write you off, but not everyone will.

That said, while I wouldn’t care about you having a felony, the 3.67 may hurt. There are plenty of 3.85+ without felonies. Life might really suck right now, but over the long term, I’m sure things will work out for you.

Also, Big4 is the pinnacle of bureaucracy, so surely they’d have check you too? Why didn’t they rescind? How did you handle it with them?

I’m not sure why you didn’t try to get it expunged immediately at the time it happened, but I don’t know the pre trial intervention laws in your state. You will have to do a background check and this will come up, so I would be forthcoming with it and explain that it’s something that happened when you were young. Create a story…but good luck. I think today people are less harsh for things like that.
