Do you learn anything in your internship?

My question is, are any of these internships valuable to you guys? Are you actually learning how to do various tasks? Such as modeling/valuation? Or do you guys get busy work tasks and really don’t get much out of it other than networking and resume?

I’m very curious. The internships I worked were very hit or miss.

Cheers

In my experience you get almost 0 valuation/modeling experiences during preparation internships. But I have familiarized myself with various databases such as Capital IQ and Pitchbook + learned my ways through Excel and Powerpoint. Also, screening for public & m&a comps are all really good experience. Interning at a satellite MM office and basically breezing through majority of the tasks while the other interns constantly ask for Powerpoint + Excel functions and short cuts. All of the interns know how to answer “What are some screening criteria for comps” but dont know how to apply it in real life because they have never done it. Pretty valuable experience imo. If you can get through tasks faster and more accurate during your summer internship, you get the reputation of being “that” guy which snowballs and allows you to be on better and more interesting projects/tasks.
