To a certain point I think the bank matters and there is some sense of culture. But at the end of the day it depends on your group and who you work with within it. It really only takes one MD, D or even VP to really alter your perceptions and expierence. I spent the first 6 years of my career avoiding working some bankers on my team because I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. Some weren't even that bad but our styles would conflict vs others I'd worked with. It was totally worth it to build the right relationships. Your going to eat some shit regardless early on in your career since you are lowest on the totem pole but you can mitigate it to an extent.

It differs by group. Typically the group head/vertical sets the culture. Cultures usually follow a few different archetypes: Culty, fratty, nerdy, preppy, or a mixture of them.
