Done with informational interview. Now what?

I had an informational interview over the phone with an alum working for BB IBD. I have already sent the thank you note. What should I do if I want to keep him in contact? Can I ask him to refer me to other analysts? How can networking help me in recruiting?

Your goal in informational interviews should always be to get more contacts. Do your homework and speak to as many people as possible in an attempt to get to the person who makes the decisions. Be aggressive but not pushy-there is a process. This is how you will build your network and continue expanding your knowledge about the job. Your thank you note was a good start and you should check in periodically with new updates (if you are in school-when you finish the semester, hear something about the industry, have more questions, etc.). If he/she is an important contact a short email every couple months is a good idea. Base it on your level of comfort.
