Downfall of my GPA

I transferred from a top 40 (non-IB target) school to a top 20 school (Semi-target school: think of USC, Emory, Vandy). I had 3.75 as an engineering major at my previous school. During my first semester at my current school, I had a 3.8 GPA but I have 3.1 my second semester after the death of a close family member. Right now my cumulative GPA is 3.51. Do I still have a chance to break into IB, considering I will need to apply this summer? Should I leave my internship and take summer classes to boost up my GPA? I am a minority and doing a double major in finance/accounting and STEM(not very rigorous STEM major though), if that helps. I am very stressed out and any kind of advice would be helpful. Thanks again in advance.

You should be fine. The URM status will be a big factor here.

Do not stress, take this story and incorporate it into your networking. The death of a family member is something that many (read: most) can relate to.

Don't leave your internship, especially if it's something finance-related. Maybe try asking your employer to let you have a flexible schedule so can go back and forth between retaking classes in the summer and working for them. Anw, double major with GPA 3.5+ is okay, do some networking and you'll be fine.

Thank you so much for your comment. I did ask my employer and they didn't reply to my email. It's a paid internship, so I completely understand why they would be hesitant to be that flexible. I suck at networking and completely stopped networking last semester. I am talking to two people next week, so hopefully, I'll get better at it. Thanks again.

Oh so you should commit to the internship on a full-time basis.

I sucked at networking but it did improve over time, luckily one senior banker took me under his wing. Keep trying and it will certainly materialize.

G'luck mate.
