EB analyst perception vs BB

Is it me or when you meet an EB kid you automatically assume they are much sharper / more gifted than the BB kid.

When a kid tells me he’s at like “Barclays” you kind of assume he knows the $10 depreciation question and went to IU Kelly, probably has a Dad at a rival bank.

When you meet a kid from “PJT” they have this aura about them. Sharp. Witty. Charismatic. Lucky even? Idk what it is. Even a more mid EB like “Moelis” or “Perella” just exudes aura. Those motherfuckers know the technicals cold. Complex accounting, mental math, restructuring - you name it.

I cannot say the same about a “BofA” or “Citi”. Feels too institutional. Feels ugly.

Anyway, my insecure VP at Lazard just gave a ton of non value-add comments to this pitch we’re going to lose anyway. I wish she would call me in her office to suck her toes and Viagra bomb me instead.

Goodnight.

plenty of EB kids are just regular anxious nerds but with better PR. Half the “aura” is just them being sleep deprived enough to maintain intense eye contact and say “frankly” a lot

Idk, this just seems like sophomore mental masturbation to me

Congrats on Lazard! Enjoy slaving away for a bank that nobody has heard of outside of finance. At least girls know my firm when I say it (they only know it for being an elitist bank).

Yeah I argee with you remember hearing last year about that PJT RSSG chinese spy who ate dogs and shit.

I dont understand why ppl draw this distinction. Ppl at top BB groups and EBs have significant overlap in personalities and competencies

Tbh I only get this vibe only from smaller boutiques like centerview or qatalyst, not really Evercore, Moelis, PwP or such

I think the comparison could be more like meeting a generic person who works at Barclays vs someone who works at a top group like M&A, TMT or LevFin there.

A lot of these boutiques were founded by former leaders of top groups at BBs. So working at an EB like Moelis is like what it once was to be a UBS M&A or LA / Exclusive Sales & Divestitues.

Working at PJT is like MS M&A

Etc. for the comparison

So given that it’s like comparing the average person at BofA M&A to the average person at BofA in its entirety.

Generally the EBs are focused on one product which is M&A. That product gets headlines, works hard, pays well and all that jazz. It seems to me people just be in aura of M&A or whatever other high paying high money high power job.

Cheers
