email MD after 1st round?
hey guys.
I had a IB FT first round last week at a boutique and was told superdays were early Feb. I haven't heard back so I'm assuming I didn't make final rounds.
I want to email the MD about how badly I want this job but is this unprofessional or too direct?
my interview was all basic technicals and no fit beyond walk me through your resume and why banking I have directly relevant experience and answered every technical correctly.
there was no fit in the first round but the team is very small.(10 people) id like to send the md an email directly and explain my story but is this a bad idea?

I'd say move on to the next one, and learn from what might have led to you not being invited for a superday. Sending email is not going to help you any further as it is extremely unlikely that the MD will reverse the decision. Furthermore, there is really no clear upside to sending the email as opposed to the downsides (looking desperate, wasting your own time).
The HR department would know more about your position in the process at this point than the MD. If you follow-up with HR, and it's true that you actually didn't move on to the superday(s), they will more than likely be upfront with you about it. Then at that point, as a last resort, I would consider emailing the MD and seeing if there's anything that could be done - but even then I would be skeptical of coming off as desperate and turning off a connection that could be useful later in my career.
If you really want to send an e-mail I would instead send a quick note to the MD thanking him for the interview, repeating your desire to work for the firm, and then hoping to see him again at the Superday/next interview.
Doesn't really come across as desperate in my opinion if its something like that.
Everything has an element of fit to it by the way. The way you answer the technical questions, the conversation you give in between, your overall demeanor/personality is quickly shown. (Think about it, when you meet someone how long does it take you to make a first impression) Just because it's disguised as a technical question (which you are expected to know the correct answer to (in most cases)) does not mean they aren't looking at other more subtle nuances.

Hey everyone, I had an interview at a BB on 16th of July.Around 6 people interviewed me and I was told that I would be able to hear something in the 1st week of August..but no news as of now.The MD who interviewed me is my single point of contact.There was no HR.How should I ask him about my status ?I did send him a thank you note right after the interview.

Probably, but MDs are really busy. If they don't have HR running point on this, they may have just been bogged down with other stuff. I waited well over a month before I got my offer.
Whatever you send, just make it concise and not too stuffy.
^Ya but still I want to politely follow up.Atleast they should notify.This is Frustrating :(
