Emailing MD Directly - Job Reference

Hello Everyone,

I recently came across a job posting via LinkedIn for a Jr. Associate for a decent-sized fund ($60B+ AUM).
I also happen to personally know a Sr. Associate at the firm based in the NYC office. The job posting was for another office in the New England area and was directly posted by the MD, not HR. It mentions to just email the MD the resume directly, and only expect contact back if you are found to be a good fit.

Would anyone have advice or know the appropriate way of emailing an MD your resume as well as mentioning your internal reference?
Both myself and my reference both come from non-target schools. That is how we both met.
