Emory Transfer Major?

From my research it seems that at Emory many people go into Goizueta as juniors? So transferring into econ as a sophomore then applying for Goizueta as a junior would be feasible? From a couple different sources it seems like the acceptance rates for juniors at Emory is fairly high.

Would it be better to apply as a sophomore transfer for econ or straight into Goizueta? Emory's website says Goizueta takes ~20 students per year so definitely very selective. There doesn't seem to be a set number regarding econ/arts and sciences. Which major would be the better option to apply for? Goal is to graduate and work in finance, leaning towards consulting rn.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that transferring into Emory as an econ major and then applying to Goizueta as a junior is indeed a path that some students take. However, it's important to note that transfer students can sometimes be at a disadvantage when applying to the business school.

If your goal is to work in finance or consulting, Goizueta could be a good fit as it has solid regional placement in places like Charlotte, Raleigh, and especially Atlanta for banking. However, the acceptance rate is competitive, and it's a risk you would need to be willing to take.

On the other hand, applying as an econ major might offer a higher acceptance rate, but it may not carry the same level of prestige or recruitment opportunities as Goizueta.

In the end, the choice between applying as an econ major or directly to Goizueta depends on your personal risk tolerance, career goals, and academic interests. It's a decision you'll have to weigh carefully. Good luck, and remember, every banana has its peel!

BBA program at Goizueta has 95%+ acceptance rate for undergrads. They bumped the entry date so u can actually enroll as a 1st sem sophomore. Focus on getting into Emory in general, entering BBA will not be difficult.

So apply for econ then transfer in after one semester? Or do you need a set number of semesters first?

Would it be a good idea to put my intended business major for the 2nd choice? Or maybe a backup option in arts and sciences?

You can probably transfer in after a semester. Goizueta is the easy part getting into Emory is the challenging. Shoot for that right now. You can apply as Econ it’s fine

Transferred into Emory. Apply as an econ major. If you want to stay for 3 years after you transfer in (i.e. you are transferring after freshman year or are ok doing 5 years), then transfer to the B school once you are at Emory, which as other posters have mentioned, is really easy to get into. I would also suggest taking accounting/Corp fin/other prereqs before transferring to Emory so then you can take Emory’s best b school classes as soon as you get on campus.

I'm applying to transfer in as a sophomore. I'll put econ as my first choice but should I leave Goizueta as second? Seems like no shot they'd take me for that as a second choice so I was thinking maybe something else in the arts and sciences school.

Do you need to be there for a whole year before applying? Or can I apply to enter Goizueta in my second semester there?

You can definitely get into Goizueta I junior year, but you will have a way better chance of transferring into Emory by applying for the Econ/math joint major in the college

What about the quantitative sciences major? I'm actually really interested in the data science and econ QS program there now. Perhaps it could also be a better backup if Goizueta doesn't work out?
