Engineering at McGill, am I at a disadvantage compared commerce majors?

In the US, you can major in anything ( bonus points for quantitative majors) and still break into IB. But I've read post in WSO that Canadian recruiting is finance majors centric. Am I at a huge disadvantage for IB recruiting in Canada?

( I don't get because usually engineering students are more capable than commerce students)

You are at a huge disadvantage because of that attitude.

there's quite a few Canadian banks that will target STEM majors/engineers. It's not uncommon for engineers to break into IB/finance at all.

However, they look for different things. the STEM/Eng recruiters are looking for fit. They know you're technically capable, but if you're a weird Eng kid who can't hold a conversation with a wall, you're toast. Prep those behavioural questions, they give you much more leeway if you fuck up on technicals, cause your background is different. However you can't fake EQ
