Engineering --> IB
Currently an engineering intern, but am more interested in IB. Are engineering students generally looked down upon at all? And would it be feasible for me to spin this internship into a story for why I want to do IB? Like I want to interact with others more, learn more about company fundamentals, etc.
Depends on school (target vs non-target) but generally no one cares what you study / an engineering major with a good GPA can be a plus.
Diversity of thought is valued for sure.
As for story, engineering at a high level involves building a toolkit and using it to solve complex problems. In a sense, banking (and really anything but for the sake of argument you can stick to banking) is similar. I came in with a similar STEM background and said something along the lines of I wanted to do something quantitative where I could build (models) and interviewers seemed to resonate with my story
How does it differ by target vs non? I was under the impression that for target, it doesn’t matter, you’re already seen as smart enough, and non target if you have a good gpa it can help you be seen as smart enough even though you go to a worse school. Is that right?
