Enquiring about career opportunities

Hi.

So I'm a non-US student and looking for an internship. I will be in the US this August on a holiday my family has had planned for four years... this period also coincides with the intern application process in my country, meaning I will be unable to make any interviews.

Figured I'll take that lost opportunity and try make something out of it... so I am trying to find a winter internship in the US.

I have a list of hedge funds with emails of personnel and recruitment departments. Now I am wondering, should I directly inquire about internships to the funds with a recruitment email listed? For those with no recruitment email listed, would it be best to email one of the personnel and just ask for an informational interview for when I am in the city? And in the event I do get responses, how would I inquire about an internship?

It probably won't matter, but I've been investing and trading for several years, both for myself and my family, so I will be asking for UNPAID internships since I could cover the out of pocket expenses.

I know the chances are infinitesimally small but really got nothing to lose.

First of all, I would still apply for internships in your country. Even though you won't be in your country, you can still do phone interviews, and if they want to fly you out for next round interviews, all the better for you. IIf you advance to next rounds, but they won't fly you out for some reason, use your money to fly back home for interviews...Regarding your winter internship here, I would cast your net wide and also look boutique ib's for winter internships as well as small pe funds....email them before you arrive to US, chances are, not many will respond, but for those who do, you can set up times to meet with, right when you arrive in US. Good luck...
