Evercore M&A to Distressed/Credit Fund?

I currently work in Evercore's M&A group and have grown a keen interest in distressed/credit investing over the past year. As I look at the typical exit opportunities from my group, bankers seem to shoot for vanilla PE roles at MF/UMM.

Could anyone shed some light on how I could position myself to successfully recruit at some of these distressed-oriented funds? Any stories about someone pulling this off in the past would be more than welcome.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't EVR coverage groups come in sometimes to help on RX deals? I used to work in private credit and I think I remember we hired EVR RX for a portco and the O&G group did a decent amount of work for them. If that's the case, could ask to be staffed on those deals? My memory on this is foggy though and I could be totally off base.

OP here: Thanks apes! The Houston OG team chimes in at times on some of the Rx mandates and it seems to be the case for most of the technical verticals but I am a generalist and hence haven't been able to work on any although I asked multiple times. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do now? What was the most common backgrounds for new-hires at your past firm?
